For the 61L HEMI V8 engine the crankshaft had four bolt holes in a circular pattern for the crank sensor that was located behind the last counterweight.
However Chrysler did not supply crank sensors separately because the crankshaft was balanced with the sensor on it and Chrysler claimed that balance would be adversely affected if the crank sensor was changed. 61 has a knock sensor and will retard timing if 87 octain is used. Glock22 stated that the ford 46 did not have knock sensors which last time I checked is not a DODGE 61L HEMI.
He stated an exception. He did not state that the 61L DID NOT have knock sensors. This happens in particular when the pedal is floored from about 15 mph.
In essence the computer cant figure out at what engine speed to shift. The problem has been solved with new software and only applies to cars built with the 61 liter engine before July 25 2005. The procedure should be done under warranty in about half an hour.
On the Challengers the 57 manifolds have 2 O2 sensors on each side of the manifold and none on the mid pipescats. The 6164 manifolds only have 1 O2 sensor per side and 1 O2 sensor per side on the 6164 style cats. That being said when you do the manifold swap you also have to do a mid pipe swap.
