To reduce the chance of pinging and knocking because of higher cylinder pressures Chrysler recommends 91 octane fuel be used with Hemi engines that are matched to a manual transmission. 87 octane fuel is considered the acceptable minimum for.
Since the two currently available gas engine options of Jeep Grand Cherokee have different gas recommendations and my car is a 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland with 57L Hemi I want to make this thread to be specific to that engine.
What gas should i use in my 57 hemi. However its my understanding that the 57 hemi is optimized to run on 89 octane gas. Putting 91 or 93 octane gas in without a tune will not create additional power as the stock PCM does not adjust to having higher octane. As others have stated the higher octane gas may be cleaner but a good quality gasoline already has cleanersadditives in it.

You can run 87 octane in your car but the computer will pull timing to compensate for the inevitable spark knock that will result from using a poor grade fuel in a performance car.

They further explained the computer programmed best running scenerio was at 89. But the computer will adjust to fuel rated at 87.

I have a 2017 ram 1500 with a 57 liter hemi does anyone know what type of gas I should be putting in it. Recommended fuel according to owners manual is 89 octane. Ram recommends using 89 octane which is considered mid-grade in all 1500s equipped with the 57-liter Hemi V-8 and 57-liter V-8 eTorque.
However Ram states in its owners manual fuel as low as 87 octane is acceptable but maximum performance and fuel economy is achieved with 89. Armed with that information I have only filled up once since getting my Charger RT 57L Hemi and filled up with 87. The car is running excellent with 87 however I am stuck between believing gas is just a scam even though much experience and many articles state it is and other articles ive read where people claim to get better gas mileage.

The 57 prefers 89 octane fuel the automatic can survive on lower octane but the mileage may suffer maybe slightly If 89 is not available and you have a 6speed then go 9193 for half the tank and 87 or whatever your lower one is for the second half.
The 57 Hemi is one of the most popular gasoline engines in North America and its pretty reliable for the most part however no engine is perfect and the 57 certainly has its flaws. These engines are known to snap exhaust manifold bolts and the MDS may be pretty stubborn at times but the most notorious problem on the 57 Hemi is the ticking noise dubbed the Hemi. The 57 Hemi is open to many types of modifications that can increase its power output.
Now if you have heard that the 57 Hemi upgrades are above your range do not worry. While some improvements will cost you a little extra some cheaper ones will put less strain on your wallet. In my 2006 Durango with a 57 Hemi and 130k miles on it which is the same engine as a 1500 as far as I know.
